Can don't.

So I was going through my computer at work trying ot make room and I ran across this stuff and I figured "why not post it up"...As I'm usually hard up for things to post.I don't know why I never finished these guys, but...Why again are they on a pink background? Just some faces I did while trying to work out character designs, I was really taking alot from Denis Bodart, if you haven't seen this man's work, man are you missing out.

Good Stuff.

You know, I've always wanted to post this but never got around to it, figure now's as good a time as any. This short is just SO good though...Something about those French, they just "get it". Anyway, this was done by a studio called CUBE and directed by Louis Clichy. You can check them out at http://www.cube-creative.fr/html/nt/nt_lc/akoa.html

Illustration Friday:Smoke

I'm always jumping in on a wednesday or something, I need to try and get this in a little earlier or something...oh well.
Again, playing around with some stuff just to get the "juices" flowing.
It didn't come out as nice as I'd hoped, but...I'm happy withit at least.

Like I said...

I need to keep bloggin...right? These were actualyl just some tiny little thumbnails I'd put together awhile back to gather some ideas. I'd thought to try making them larger but...I was on a role so I just kept drawing and forgot to do anything with them. Happens I suppose.

This one really had alot of my friends squinting to figure out what was happening, I think it comes off alot better blown up and by itself.

what can I say really? I still love pirates...

Wow...

Have I really gotten THAT lazy?
I apparently need to get back to work.

One in the Hole

Okay, so it's apparently been THAT long since I posted anything. But, as I usually do, I have an excuse...I've been working. That's right...working. A couple of weeks ago some of friends of mine, Joe and Ryan, came to me with a project about hobos that they wanted to do for a certain network that shows cartoons. I'm not gonna give to much away as I've been sworn to at least SOME silence...obviously not much though. Anyway, I've been drawing alot of stuff but I can't post it just yet. We're waiting till it's done and happening. Also...while that was happening...I was in california. Let me tell yah...I loved it. Best trip I'd taken in a long while. Anyway...I'm here for a bit while work that doesn't involve me gets finished...so I thought I'd draw just a lovely lady...as NONE of the designs I've been doing for this show concept are lovely in the least.

Look forward to this year folks, cause it's gonna be interesting.

Illustration Friday:Play

So it's been a good while since I posted something so I figured I had to put something up. This is just something I put together real quick seeing as I missed out on the last couple of Illustration Fridays'...I do have a note from my parents though. I've been a bit under the weather as of late and things have been sorta busy. I'm helping put together a pilot with my friends Joe and Ryan and I'm still trying to spread myself thin with the comic and a game concept that ANOTHET group of my friends wants me to help with. I wish I could draw faster...and better but that would probably just make me slower. Grumble Grumble.

ALL KIDS OF "AMAZING.."

About a year ago I'd remembered a professor telling about the book, AND about how there were talks of a television show...and now Mike Mignola's "THE AMAZING SCREW ON HEAD" has a PILOT!...at the moment, sci-fi channel is just showing the pilot on their website and getting feedback from folk to decide whether they should continue...oh LORD please say enough people will praise this show for the bit of fantastic it is.

If you don't already have an excuse, you have one now...go to the site, see the pilot and decide for yourself whether television is ready.
The Entire Pilot

I'd never tried one of these before...but i think it's pretty good. I tried out alot of different tools this time..some I'm happy with...some I'm not. Maybe next time it'll turn out better.

Nice...REAL Nice.

For anyone who's ever seen the Sony Bravio commercial with all the bouncing balls...you mite get a kick out of this one. Of course, it's terrible to think that this commercial is already "that old"...and able to be made parody, how time flies.

GNAW AT YOUR FACE!

I'm always so late with finding out about certain things...movies...comics...break-ups...and music...but MAINLY music. I just found out about this Danger Mouse and Cee-lo project Gnarls Barkeyl...MAN, is it awesome. If you're late in finding out stuff like me, I definately suggest checking them out.

This was just something I did to eat up some time at work...I'm still not great at getting the likeness of a person down just using these simple shapes though...ah well.

Odd Couple.

Although I've got ALL these great pictures and things to post up...I have yet to get around to it. I'm terrible about that sometimes. Anyway, this is something that I'd been messing around with at work and just thought I'd put it up.
I thought they were neat cause they're sorta the two "extremes" i take my drawings alot of times. Still though...I could have sworn the colors looked alot different before I made it a jpeg...CURSE THIS LCD~!!

Hopefully I'll load some more stuff tomorrow.

Man, that's alot of walking...

So, I didn't get to post it as soon as I'd hoped but here's the stuff I did on my rather short "sketchcrawl" around atlanta. As I figured, everybody ended up canceling...whimps. Anyway, I kinda like how some of them came out but I think I need to start useing more pain on my brush...everything still looks really washed out.

I thought I was doing pretty good at this point, but I still think I was trying to get to many details and not enough mood...or something.

Honestly I wasn't trying the whole pen over watercolor thing at first but when I'd finished this one with the city scape and I couldn't tell WHAT the heck I was drawing I figured I'd try it out...I'd seen a couple of other people work this this, namely Alina Chau, course I'm not nearly as good.

By the end of the day I think I'd been walking around town for about 7 hours...I was sorta lazy to of been around for that long and only done THIS much drawing. I think next time I need to pick a better section of town that has more stuff to catch my attention.

What's all the Fuss about?

So, this post is two things...one, it's a lesson to me that I need to find a way to calibrate my monitor at work before it's to late...my colors are coming out ALL wrong...and two, I just figured I'd post up something. These are two popular fellas from two different shows that are probably going to be the talk of many a "fan-boy" as to who could beat who. If you don't know who they are I won't bore you with details. Anyway, I always felt it was funny that they oddly enough look alike...just one's older then other. Oh well...

This is going to be one FUN weekend...I hope.

I'm SO excited for this saturday...actually, this whole weekend (including Monday, oddly enough) is going to be so exciting. Saturday is the start of what I hope will be a long running of "SketchCrawls" here in Georgia. I'd finally talked a couple of friends to joining me out to just walk around town and draw. It's going to be hot, it's going to be long...I'm hoping it's going to be a blast. I'll admit, the fact that this isn't San Franciso will probably make it less then AMAZING as very little happens in Georgia unless it's planned well in advance, but...who cares?...It should be fun all the same. I'm hoping to have batteries and a bigger memory card for my camera for saturday so as to have a couple of pictures of the whole thing.

Course, I'm sure ALOT of people are going to cancel last minute as usual.

But that's okay, cause if saturday doesn't go as well as I'd hoped, Monday will make up for it. Jetix is apparently premiereing "Oban: Star Racer" and I can't wait. Originally it was a concept show that a french studio called Sav! The World (http://savtheworld.com/) came up with...and I'll tell yah...when I say what they show was ORIGINALLY going to look like I was drooling all over my keyboard.

Sadly, as it happens sometimes, the concept was far greater then what was possible. The studio later decided that making the show 2D would save money and time. Of course I can understand but...DAMN, what a let down. Oh well, I've been waiting to see if the show is actually at all any good and if they can still blow my mind away even without everything being 3D (now only the vehicles and backgrounds during the races are computer generated)...

I tell yah what though...it STILL looks pretty good from what I'm seeing.

Oil Painting...what a beast!

A little while ago me and a few friends took part in a class to learn how to use oil paints and let me tell yah...MAN that stuff is hard. I'd walked into the thing knowing it was going to be a bit different but I had NO idea apparently. The way we were getting taught was apparently the "traditional" method that involved layering. I can't remember the whole process now but I do remember that the REAL bitch was that we couldn't lay out the picture with pencils first...Elio, who was the one teaching us, felt that working with paints for the entire process would really teach us something.Looking at the final results, I can't argue.

Anyway, these are just a few shots taken on last day of class when everyone's pieces were REALLY coming along.
The Guy to the left is Joe, his piece probably looked the worse at the beginning of the class buy by the end I think he got something REALLY awesome.

Jeff here to the right had decided to not come on the some of the most important days of the class so his I don't think got totally finished. But as usual he still managed to pul a good piece out of his ass.

Now this guy here, I probably hate the most...Nex to Kevin(whose piece I didn't get anyshots of) Brain here probably took the MOST chances and just came out with a GREAT piece.
This is what his turned out like...I think his cloth came out the best though.

I think this is Jeff's below...like I said, even though he missed a class or two he was still able to pull a REALLY good painting out. I'm especially a fan of the how much "dark" he put into his painting. It really pops that figure out

Unfortunately there a few paintings that I didn't get to get a picture of cause ther weren't finished when I brough the camera. I suppose I'll have to get a shot of them sometime, but I think Kevin and Elio are planning on putting their pieces in the show they want to put together sometime this year, so I mite to get a shot then. Joe put his on top of a book shelf in his apartment...

And Mine, which is the one at the beginning I ended up giving to my dad as a gift...Probably should have held off though and given it to my mother for Mother's Day. OH well, next time.
Which should hopefully be soon actually. Elio plans on putting together another one of these and I gotta say, if the looks as good as it did this time...it should be awesome.

A bit of Fun and Action...

So for anyone who actually checks out my blog, you mite remember a little while back I had loaded the opening of an anime that was directed by Anno hideako.
Now I will be the first to admit, I'm certainy not that much of a fan of anime, but this guy...is fantastic. His work is just so chaotic and fun...I can't stop watching. For anyone who is just a fan of animation I would certainly suggest him to you.
This here is another opening he'd done for a video game, Namco X Capcom...
Frankly, the game...REALLY awful. What they should have done was just package this opening video cause this...is pure gold.

So, I wanted a picture...

Alright, so apparently in order to put a picture up with your name you have to have a URL set up for it or something...the interweb is a crazy place. So, I'm gonna post up this so I can use it in the mean time...it's an alright one, a little, blah. but, it'll work, right?

Heads Up.

So, a friend and I have this idea for a show concept...it's nothing I don't think either of us is able to commit alot time to but I figured the first thing would be some ideas for characters and such. I started putting down just a bunch of different head designs for one of the main characters...I was supposed to going for a teen guy who could live in lagoona but was obviously from out of town. I figured the first thing i needed down was the hair. It's all about the hair. Evidently I got REAL bored by the end of it...they start looking alot less..."attractive" which is something that was part of the profile. Anyway,I like some of the heads and I think I'll start posting more stuff on this project as it comes around.

For anyone who wants to know...all we've really gotten for the concept is: The OC, but with Robots. Wrap that one around your head for a bit...

John and Mi

So, I had some extra time and started drawing some random people...and then I came across these two...they looked a little different before they made it here, but...I was filled with this idea that they looked kinda familure...

Oh yeah...John Lasseter and Hayao Miyazaki...what a pair they make.

Actually, the one that I thought looked like Miyazaki looks less and less like him...Lasseter's sorta there. Really I need to work on my charactures of people. I'm gettin better but it's still not there.

Alot of where I got the look for John was from another artist who works at Pixar, Ronnie Del Carmen. I love this guy's stuff...don't care what anyone says.

He too has a blog if you want to check it out, which you should anyway...even if you don't.

The Grey Coats...

So, it's been a good while since I had something I felt that i wanted to post on this here blog...and I still don't think i have anything THAT amazing to show...but I gotta put something.

So i've been trying to think up some better designs for characters in the comic I finished up...give em a bit more of a cartoony feel and more prominently speaks of "my style" rather then something obviously Darwyn Cooke.

I'm kinda happy with this but it's still not quite there...it's close though.

Ithink I'm going to have to start pullin out the Alex Toth and try something else...
Anway, these are them...I rather like the beard on the chubby guy...very fancy.

I tell yah, it is hard stuff working on a comic though. Alot of fun but...sheesh. The the good news is that today we had a meeting with the people at the comic studio and they seemed to like it for the most part...but we got pushed back to the fifth issue.

That sucks the big one.

But all is not lost...the only means we're slotted for the fifth. Should any artist no come in on time or just straight don't do their work...we could be bumped up. But I'm not holding out...chances are it won't be something we get to bring with us to San Diego...but who knows.

WHAT A LOAD...

Damn, has it really been that long since I posted anything new on this thing? Well, I could make alot of different excuses but I think the only one I'm happy with is that I've been working on the comic, which FINALLY got done. I think next time I'm definately going to have to work out a better regiment and have it done alot sooner and alot faster cause there were a few points were I seriously thought the writer, Joe, was going to murder me something fierce. But in the end, it turned out pretty nice and I'm not totally discgusted by it at least. Course now it's up to the people at the studio to decide whether they can put it in the 3rd issue of the series like we'd hope to do. Which would have been awesome seeing as that mite have meant we could take it with us to San Diego in July...how cool would that be?
If nothing else, I've now got the time to work on a sketchbook for Comic Con and try to put together a few pieces of animation for a new portfolio...we'll see how that turns out if at all.
Mean time I haven't got anything on me that I'd want to post but the work day isn't done...should have something later tonight. If not, definately tomorrow.
Figure I gotta start puttin this blog to use for once.

Though I did get excited cause now I figured out how to post movies on my blog...so now like alot of people I can put up pointless stuff that I didn't have any part in except that I think it's really awesome.

By the way, this the opening of an anime calle RE:Cutey Honey. I think it was a anime from the later 60s but then remade twice before getting this version by Anno hideako.

If you're an anime fan, you've probably seen his stuff once or twice.
I'm usually not a fan of anime but I gotta say...this thing was awesome. To bad it was so short.

Big Times and Big Tops

So things have been pretty busy lately. I'm moving, I have work, and I'm finishing up the comic is just around the bend...but shouldn't I have time to work on my own stuff? Seriously, I don't know how people do it. Working so many hours of the day on other people's stuff takes alot of you and then you have enough to still just draw?
...impressive, most impressive.
Anyway, I did make enough time to just do something that wasn't work related at all but just fun in my eyes. I'd been seeing alot of people do circus performers and...well, I'm certailny not one to not follow a trend that's as cool as circus folk.

Monday, March 06, 2006

Amor 3

So it's been a bit of crunch lately to get the comic done by the 3 week in march which is possiblebut still...damn. So, I haven't had much time to do anything else but I did make time to mess with photoshop to try and get my hands working on somethning else.
I'm not usually one to just do the quick...sketchy...type stuff on photoshop but I'm finding more and more that it was MADE for that.
Anyway, I actually only drew one piece of armor starting with the red one and then just made come color changes for the other two. They're not great but i think they're alright.

Thursday, March 02, 2006

All this time and it's just words?

Poor poor blog, i've nothing to add to you in so long

I'm afriad it's just been really busy lately for me and I haven't had a chance to drawing anything that wasn't related to inking on top of something else. That's right, I'm still inking the comic. If any of you know me, you know I'm terrible at keekping a schedule but it's coming together and it'll be done by the end of march, which is so cool cause that means that we'll have it released by july and THAT means we get to take it to san diego...i can barely believe that it sometimes.
But I don't want to jinx it. But, I'm hoping that with that gap between march and july I'll start drawing up some stuff cause i want to take more then just the comic to san de-ah-go.

Keepin my fingers cross.

Which is she is?

...So I did some more faces. I don't know if I like these nearly as much as I liked the last ones but these are still pretty nice. The toughest one was the "grandma"...she's just looking a little to manish still. Hopefully no one will notice and be able to pick up that it's a older woman, we'll see.
.

Faces.

...it acutally wasn't that slow at the office today, unlike usually. There was stuff to be done and places to be. The "places to be" was probably the high light for the most part, my new room mate and I may have found our new digs for the next 12 monthes...let us hope. I tell yah, I certainly don't want it to end up...day before I have to move and no place to move to but back into my parents place.

One very cool thing is that I had heard from some of my friends who work at a gaming studio here in atlanta that some of the higher ups were talking about me again (again because, well, it's a long story), which is good. I don't know anything will come of it but it certainly would be fun to be doing concept work again.
Here's hoping.

Love, in a comic book?

...No, not at all actually. I too was almost knocked out of shoes upon seeing these two books seeing as I haven't seen a teen love comic on the stands in...ever. That's not to say that there isn't a hint of the ol "true heart" in either of these, but they're still not a throw back to the 50s of box of chocolates and class pins. Really though, none of this is why I picked up either of these books. If you ever get a chance to look at the first book, really take a look at who the artist are...Palmiotti?...Kirby?...BUSCEMA? But all all of this just made way to what the book really was...a spoof. Apparently someone got it in their head that love comics were just silly and so they decided to go even farther and just made them...hilarious. The second book...well...it has Marcoe Martin and he's always fantastic.
Anyway, getting nerdy about comics I actually did some drawing. It started with trying to draw a few of the people I work with and then it just turned into a bunch of faces. Wel, I thought I should post something so I put this...maybe one more drawing. Something from a drawing session with a couple of friends. Good times with tthat charcoal.

A Funny thing happen...

(Looks like practice really DOES help.)

So I thought I should start actually putting stuff up on this blog but I know most people usually put the newest stuff they've done that day so that it stays fresh. Well, i haven't got much that's new and fresh at the moment.
I did/do however have a few things I'd done this weekend past that I REALLY liked. I mean, I've done alot of life drawings during my time at school but I don't think there were ANY that enjoyed nearly as much as these two, and it felt good to have some pieces finally come out how I wanted them (the early ones were looking terrible).

Anyway, this was a fun night because it was some sort of "college night" that the High Museum had put together. Pretty much it was a bunch of kids from Atlanta College of Art there to put their drawing talents to the test. And I usually wouldn't talk down about people but one event really had me laughing on the inside. At one point a gentleman who I can only figure was assisting with the life drawing was walking around giving pointers to some of the other artist. Pretty standard stuff but it was apparent that he had only learned this stuff the day before. Anyway, he looks over at me and my friend Elio (who's amazing) and starts walking over.
"This is gonna be fun" was all I could thin
k.
(It was pure magic with the charcoal this night.)
Sure enough, he opens with something like "So you guys must be animation people, right?" He was then about to recite what he'd been saying to everyone else until he saw that we really didn't need to much help...he recovered pretty well saying that he just wanted to take a look at what we were doing.

Maybe it's a bit mean to think that it was funny...but it was. And I'm sure at least a few animation folk out there have been in the same situation where someone mite not think you could actually draw if all you do is cartoons. I guess I should feel bad that I didn't have bugs bunny or underdog on my paper.
It was still a fun fun night though. Got to draw, had some laughs and was really pleased that alot of teenagers were visiting the museum. But they really need to update the new parts of the museum because...damn. If any of you ever get the chance to visit the High Museum and see the new areas they built you'll know what I mean...pretty empty and what they DO have there...terrible.

Tuesday, January 31, 2006

A nice way to start.

So, I couldn't help but put something up before the day was over and since I'm allowed alot of time at work to mess around with stuff I decidedto do something in tribute to one of my fav interweb bands at the moment; Flight of the Concords.

If you don't know about them then you've beenmissing out. There the best thing out out of New Zealand since Lord of the Rings. Actually, they're even better.
If you'd like to check them out you can find out more info at:

http://whatthefolk.net/

Let the good times role!

Wow, my first blog.

I think it took me so long because i really wanted to finish my website but in the end...I'm lazy. It's only gotten worse now that I haven't much time to work on stuff for myself. So any projects I mite have wanted to do I'm probably going to put on hold.

It's a shame too because I think I bought my space for another year thinking I'd have it done, guess it'll have to wait another year.

Anywho, now that I have a blog I'll probably be posting some stuff soon. I love to draw and draw alot. Not all of it's good, and not all it's bad, it's a happy medium I think.

Anyway, look forward to that and don't hate me if I take awhile to get new stuff up.
